"Don't tempt me... I'm dieting!"
Statements like this tend to be said with sighs of regret. After all, we think of dieting as a punishment from above, or - at best - a necessary evil. It's as if the words 'Dieting Is Evil' are carved in stone. We've come to accept them without question. After all, what can be pleasant about being on a diet?
Or so we're led to believe by all the media hype surrounding the unhealthy dieting fads that are so common these days. Detox, cabbage soup, melon only, Atkins... The list goes on and on. These are what some people call 'desperation diets'. They're certainly not appealing and you're not going to enjoy them, but they're going to 'do you good'.
But can we rely on them?
At first you could be elated by a rapid loss of weight. But sorry to say... all evidence suggests that most people quickly give up these diets. Not only that, they revert to their old eating patterns - and then some! This shouldn't surprise us. How long can you expect to avoid practically everything you like and keep your spirits up?

So many things are 'instant' these days, aren't they? Instant coffee, instant downloads, fast foods... No wonder we apply the same thinking and expectations to our dieting. Has the flab become a complete turn-off? Is it causing certain health issues? So let's deal with it - not in six months, but NOW! In our heart of hearts we may have doubts about the latest dieting fads and gimmicks, but the copywriters know just how to reel us in. So we part with our hard-earned cash for an instant but unhealthy dieting method - even though we don't really trust it.
Some folks even opt for stomach bypass surgery, that's how desperate they are for quick results. Even though this procedure was designed for extremely obese patients, they will ignore their doctor's advice and go for private treatment.
Counteracting Unhealthy Dieting
Deep down every dieter knows what has to be done, but they are often reluctant to face the facts. So let's - gently! - spell them out. Two things are required to gain a healthy, well-shaped body. One is to eat an appropriate amount of foods from the various food groups in order to meet our body's needs... The other is to subject the body to a reasonable amount of physical exercise.
Hold on, this is not necessarily bad news! Forget the diets that stick to one thing. You can indulge your passions. There's no need to feel deprived. As long as you have a regulated plan and stick to it, you'll feel great - and your health and weight will be fine.
So wave goodbye to all those unhealthy dieting plans and the physical and emotional pain that accompany them. Say hello and welcome to a new shape, better health, higher self-esteem, improved moods and emotional well being. Yes, you can enjoy that cookie or piece of chocolate, so long as you know you're sticking to your plan and taking moderate exercise. Unhealthy dieting plans! Who needs them?
