Ukraine as the motherland of Slavic civilizations and the modern country at the same time

This Destinations Article is Brought To You By - Mathew Petrenko

Ukraine is a unitary state located in the south of Central Europe. It has twenty four provinces, Crimea – an autonomous republic and 2 urban areas that are treated separately: Kiev that is the capital and Sevastopol. Ukraine became a semi-presidential republic only four years ago. This is the consequence of an orange revolution of 2004. Now the system of power in this country has a quite interesting structure: the authority is redistributed between several branches of power. Ukraine borders on Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Moldova and Hungary form the west, Turkey form the south; the Russian border is the longest one it is from North and East. There are Crimea and Carpathian mountains in Ukraine, Carpathian are considerably higher then Crimea mountains. River Dnieper flows through the imaginary center of Ukraine and separate it into two approximately identical parts. There is a great deal of hydroelectric power plants are placed on river Dnieper. Ukraine has a quite soft climate, so the winters are not so cold here but a lot of rivers and lakes are commonly covered by ice. The mild climate in summer includes a great amount of showery days, but there are a lot of hot and dry days too.

Ukrainian soils are well-known all over the world for the high quality. It is the result of quite favorable climate terms. Actually, Ukraine is believed to be an agricultural region that permanently exports sugar, corn, vegetables and other products to more than 110 countries. Kiev is the metropolis of Ukraine and the biggest city of this country. It dates its history since the 5th century. It was founded as a little trading town and developed into the center of Slavic civilization in the Eastern part of Europe. After it was occupied by Mongols in the 13th century and fully destroyed, it lost its eminence for a long time. In the 20th century Kiev was the capital of Ukrainian Soviet Republic which was included into the Soviet Union. It was a great opportunity for Kiev to become a world known city again. In 2001 here lived 2,611,300 people in Kiev (census data). Women constituted 53 percents and men 47 percents. We can not even approximately count the number of various ethnic groups that are comprised into this amazing city. More than 120 ethnic groups live there. In the second part of 20th century its population increased considerably as a result of development of real estate building in that city. Among yellow and grey blocks of flats created new downtown buildings. During several last years Kiev has gained the status of full-fledged European city with many chic restraints and luxury hotels.

Ukraine economy gains power after the period of post Soviet problems. Today Ukraine is very respectable country which is known not as a region of the Soviet Union, but as autonomous country. All the countries included into WTO are pleasantly inviting Ukraine to become a participant of that organization.
