An evening prior to the D-day, make sure that your refrigerator is stuffed with enough celery and carrots. These would prove useful if you get an urge to smoke. Also make sure that you throw all your cigarette packets away and stock up food items which you prefer eating. Also, get good DVDs to catch up with.
When the D-day finally arrives start it with some meditation on the need and importance of quitting cigarettes. After this go on about the day as normal. The first day will have you feeling the desire to smoke many times but make sure you keep yourself determined not to give in. Divert your attention to some other task or go feed yourself with some good food. By doing this the desire to smoke will gradually pass, keep in mind that the craving will not last for more than a period of 15 minutes.
On subsequent days, you will find that the craving for the cigarette will have diminished with each passing day. A time will come when you will find the craving very low, and then finally nonexistent. This is the day when your mammoth troubles to stop smoking cold turkey will have borne fruit.
