You get to talk by email and phone as long as you wish before you feel comfortable enough to initiate a face to face meeting. Sure, you might meet a lot of jerks. But you just might find romance even when you feel perpetually single. If nothing works, then give it a rest. Just find one or two things you love to do, causes that you're passionate about and pour yourself into them.
