When you advertise is just as important as what you’re advertising.

What I’m talking about here doesn’t just apply to something such as seasonal advertising. I’m referring to any advertisement of any kind. So long as you aren’t advertising for an upcoming sale, or something that simply has to be advertised at a certain time, knowing when and where to advertise can have a big impact on the kind of response you get.

For the sake of this article I’ll use the example of direct marketing with postcards.

Now, quite often companies do a large order all at once of postcards and send them all out to a huge audience. After all, they might think, might as well take care of all of it at once and send it to everyone all at once.

This can also be true of companies who are sending multiple types of postcards at the same time. I’ve received in the mail before three or four postcards from the same company within a week, maybe two week span, all for different products.

The main drawback to a style like this is that I might not be interested in buying anything from them right now. Perhaps a month or two months down the line this might not be the case, but right now I simply don’t need their services. Well, in a month or two I might not remember them anymore. When I don’t need to buy something from a place I’m not likely to save their postcard for future reference. That card is going right in the trash.

By using a postcard printing company and staggering your mailing you can avoid an issue like this.

When you have multiple postcards you plan on sending out, why not send one of them out now and wait a month to send out the next. In fact, you could do this all throughout the year.

Buy a larger order and send them out in batches rather than all at the same time. The issue I mentioned up above can be overcome with a tactic like this. The people who are inclined to buy from you—they just don’t need to right now—are given a constant reminder that you exist. When the time eventually does come for them to shop with you, they’re still receiving those reminders in the mail that you’re waiting for them.

Single mass mailings are always going to suffer from the fact that they only appeal to the people who will have interest in the company at that moment. I’m not likely to remember a company’s name just because I get a single postcard from them.

With postcard printing companies sending out your postcards all throughout the year, you can bypass this issue and keep your name in the forefront of a person’s mind.
