Being able to manage your time can mean the difference between success and failure in your home business. Distractions are the worse culprit when it comes to lost time. Two of the biggest time wasters are television and surfing the net. Emails, phone calls, chores and other demands can also distract. When working from home you may have family or any number of things that demand your time. These are all well and good but you must also be able to give time to your business.
To be able to succeed at time management and your home business, you will need a few things.
First, you will want to have your own space. You could simply use a corner somewhere or better yet, a spare bedroom. What's most important is to have a clean organized area to call your own. And remember, using a TV room or the same space as the kids is a huge distraction and your work time will suffer.
Set aside time during the day to work your business. What this means is schedule it right in. If you work a full time job during the day, after supper, instead of watching television sit down and devote an hour or two to your business. If you have a family, just tell them the times you are working and ask them not to disturb you unless there is an emergency. Or, maybe you'll have time to work an hour before supper and an hour after supper. Do whatever works for you. Just spend at least an hour a day and be consistent.
Now, be sure to get the training needed to succeed with your home business. If possible, get someone who can coach you. This mentor will be able to keep you focused on your goals as well as give you the training you'll need. When it comes to getting a good business education, don't skimp here. This is an area that can really propel you up and onward.
Be sure that you also have a To Do list. Either the night before or that morning, write down the things you want to get done that day. Write down five or six different tasks, things that will move your business forward. For example, create a new blog or website or write an article. After completing an item on your list, put a check mark next to it and if you didn't get everything done, simply put those on the next days list.
Finally, it's time to market your business. What this means is doing the actual activity that makes you money. These include writing and submitting articles, creating a Squidoo lens, posting ads, or whatever method you are using to promote your product. The important thing is to be consistent and add to your marketing everyday. This is the activity where you will spend most of your time.
Remember, if you have a good place to work, keep to your time schedule, get the proper training, have a written To Do list and spend most of your time marketing consistently, you will see your home business grow along with your income.
