The latest revision of the iPod has been completely redesigned to allow for a colour touch screen as opposed to a navigation wheel. This, the thinnest full sized iPod so far has seen remarkable growth in sales, all thanks to it's revolutionary design. Just like the original iPod, Apple has produced something desirable, that sets it appart from the competition. Look on ebay or do a search on the internet and you'll see that simply everyone looking to make money is either selling the iPod touch, marketing it or selling a chinese copy. The reason for this is that it's been produced as a desirable product, rather than a solution. It's selling point is that it's the best MP3 player available and everything else is simply an affordable alternative. Marketing by Apple has been absolutely fantastic. Have you seen an advert for the iPod touch on Television? We haven't yet (and don't expect to either). It's not something Apple needs to do. The prodiuct, with it's cutting edge design, is selling itself, perpetuated by unpaid affiliates on the internet and word of mouth. Shops are stocking the product and advertising it actively, allowing Apple to focus on what it does best: designing the next great product. Saying all the above, Apple still has an astonishingly good Marketing division. The adverts and website look cutting edge and are simply desinged with aesthetics in mind. It's a shame that other hardware manufacturers can't do the same. Then again, things would start to look very boring after a while.
