The Wonder that is a Desktop PC

This Data Recovery Article is Brought To You By - James Walsh

The PCs can be put to a variety of uses such as saving videos or music, playing games, managing business transactions etc.

Components of a Desktop PC

Some of the primary components of a desktop computer are as follows:

  • There are a number of fans present in the computer. One of them is used to cool the processor and the other one is present near the power supply. Apart from these, one more fan may be present for general cooling.

  • The motherboard of the computer performs the function of linking the different hardware components that are present. Hence, it helps in the flow of data. All the hardware components are installed on the motherboard.

  • The hard drive is present in the computer to store all the information that is saved by the user. It may have different storage capacities. It stores data in the magnetic form on the many miniscule locations that are present on the disk surface.

  • Most of the desktop PCs today have an optical disk drive that reads data from CDs and possibly DVDs.

  • The processor present within the computer performs most of the logical operations and also routes the data to the desired hardware components.

  • RAM or the Random Access Memory is a device used for the temporary storage of memory. The data present in it is deleted when the PC is switched off.

  • The power supply unit within the computer supplies power to the different components.

  • The graphics and the sound cards are present in the computer to encode the data that is sent to the monitor and to the speakers respectively.

  • A network card is present in the computer that helps it to connect to other computers.

  • Apart from this, there are many ports present on the computer such as the USB ports, Ethernet port, ports for external modems, headphones etc.

  • A desktop PC consists of monitor as the output device. The mouse and the keyboard are the common input devices.

  • Floppy disk drives may also be present in the computer but most of the computers today come without them.

  • Apart from these, other optional components such as speakers, printers, scanners, external modems etc. may be installed in the PC.

How does a Desktop Computer Work?

The hardware components of the computer are programmed to perform different tasks. An operating system is installed in the computer and acts as an interface between the user and the computer. Other software can be installed on the computer to perform different tasks according to the needs of the user.

Benefits of Computers

The computers have provided the users with many benefits that have made them popular in a short span of time. Some of them are as follows:

  • They have made many computational tasks easier as it is not necessary to perform them manually any longer.

  • They have facilitated the transfer of data from place to place by making use of services such as the internet.

  • They have made research in different fields of science and technology possible.

  • They can be used for proper and efficient management of data in firms.

How do you Transfer Data from a Desktop PC to Other Computers?

The transfer of data is possible in different ways:

  • If both the computers are connected to the same local server, then the data can be shared with one computer and then directly copied to the other.

  • The data can be transferred though the internet by making use of services such as email, the file transfer utilities provided in online messengers etc.

  • A wired connection can be established between the two computers. This can be used to transfer data.

  • Data can be transferred by making use of portable data storage media such as CDs, DVDs, flash drives, portable hard disks etc.

  • If the computers have a Bluetooth or wireless network adaptors, then data can be transferred by establishing a connection through these devices.

Is the Data Stored on Your Computers Safe?

Contrary to the belief of many computer users, the data present on your computers can be lost due to a number of reasons. Some of these are system failure, attack on the computer by viruses or other malicious codes, power failure, physical damage to the computer etc.

To avoid such losses, the data should be backed up properly and updated anti-virus software should be installed on your computer.

With growing technological developments, computes have become an indispensable part of our lives.
