Does Vinegar have any place in your heartburn food plan? The choice of vinegars for western consumers is varied, but western medics and paramedics suggest that only one of them is suitable for heartburn sufferers. In this article, a qualified nutritionist tells you about the vinegars that are on no account to be used by heartburn patients, and another kind of vinegar that is not only a great addition to your diet, but that actually works to dramatically improve your medical state.
Heartburn can be defined as the sensation in the region of the throat or the chest of burning, frequently with a bitter or sour taste. Heartburn may indicate gastro esophageal reflux disease (GERD). Severe cases of GERD may also manifest themselves as problems in swallowing, asthma, reduction in weight and hoarseness. Neglect of GERD may degrade the impairment still further to a state known as Barrett's esophagus with the danger of cancer of the esophagus as well. Even if people who are quite healthy can get occasional heartburn (but not more than once a week), chronic heartburn is a strong sign of GERD, or acid reflux as it is also known.
In medical terms, it is the weakening of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) that leads to gastro esophageal reflux disease. The LES is the valve or circle of muscle shutting off the stomach from the esophagus. In a healthy body, this ring of muscle lets food and drink pass one way into the stomach, but shuts to prevent any flow back in the opposite direction. It is when it is debilitated due to certain factors discussed after, that gastric juices can find their way back to the esophagus (this is acid reflux), corroding the esophageal lining and causing heartburn.
Factors responsible for GERD may be direct agents causing the condition, others worsening a condition that already exists. There are both principal and secondary factors that contribute to GERD, and there are also complex interconnections between them. These causative elements include:
1. Undue production of gastric acid. In many instances (often because of inherited characteristics), the human organism may over-fabricate stomach acid that then overflows back into the esophagus to corrode lining cells.
2. Excessive growth of Candida, In certain contexts, Candida is no longer controlled properly and engages in explosive growth, overrunning the immune system and developing in excess of 79 different toxins that in turn can cause the body to malfunction in a number of ways, one of which is GERD. Candida is the mono-cellular fungal microbe found in virtually all human bodies (genitals and intestines are favorite dwelling places), in quantities that are usually kept under control by the natural flora and associated systems in the body.
As well as this, it is a known fact that certain foods are the main culprits together with white flour and sugar (and other refined carbohydrates of this type) in stimulating Candida over-multiplication. These dangerous foods include most kinds of vinegar, including balsamic vinegar, wine vinegar, white vinegar and malt vinegar. The reason is that all these vinegars are acid-forming when ingested and so push up the level of acidity of the intestines and the blood. This then leads to acid reflux and increases its degree of severity.
However, organic apple cider vinegar is the exception. Not only can it alkalize your intestinal tract (it is the only vinegar to do this), but it can also considerably reduce inflammation of the esophagus and keep Candida down to the proper levels.
As an important remark, heartburn does not however lend itself to instantaneous solutions because it is triggered by a combination of many underlying causes. The only reliable way to inverse the tendency and prevent heartburn from recurring is to treat the inner environment that is responsible in the first place for acid reflux happening.
The one solution that will bring the required results is an all-natural, holistic one.
