Is your home crammed with guests for a party every Halloween? If that's the case, you probably serve the same receipes time and time again. Some of them are great traditions at Halloween parties, but it makes a change to find ways to make the same old recipes into a new spooky variation.
1. Eyeballs and Fingers. A bowl of peeled grapes and raw hotdogs as eyeballs and fingers is a Halloween tradition. But no one ever eats them. At the end of the night, you throw away these inedible leftovers. Body part snacks that everyone can eat is a much better idea. "Intestine stew" can be simply curly cue noodels. "Brain mush dip" is really guacamole and chips. Gross out your guests with yummy food this Halloween.
2. Dirt Pudding. Gummy worms and crushed Oreos in a pudding is a classic Halloween treat. Changing it can be tricky but fun. Try turning it into something new. A dirt pie of cheesecake filing and an Oreo crust or a dirt cake with chocolate frosting will go down well. Add gummy worms to taste. And think how you're going to server your dirt desert. Use little buckets for dishes and put a child's shovel in the bowl to serve.
3. Pumpkins and Apples. Autumn is a great time for making anything from pumpkins and apples. Turning them into spooky treats is easy. It's easy to stick with pies but why not try something more rustic. Baked apples are great side dishes and toasted pumpkins seeds make great snacks. Pumpkin picking and bobbing for apple are popular at children's parties. Caramel apples are common so why not try other dips and have a candied apple buffet. And if you don't like pumpkin, hollow it out and make it into a serving bowl.
Great Halloween recipes are fun to make, look good, and are good to eat. Remember this when thinking about your traditional Halloween recipes. Or ask your guests for suggestions or create a potluck with your visitors contributing to the food. Some food is best served at Halloween. Keep it new and fresh and you'll hold the best Halloween party in your neighborhood.
