Walk along the aisles of Halloween costumes and you can't miss the Halloween masks. Like candy and pumpkins, masks are a big part of the holiday but not everyone likes to wear them. Wearing a Halloween mask has its pluses and minuses so before you choose your costume consider your options.
A mask hides who you are better than anything else. It's up to you how important that is. Masks can cover your face and head. Or they can hide only one part of your face. But when you wear any mask it's more tricky to tell who you are. Painting your face is another way to disguise yourself but not as well as a mask.
Another good point about masks is that they are easy to use. Painting your face takes some amount of skill and you have to touch up during the night in some cases. Masks just need to be put on, and you're ready to go. Even if you wear nothing else, you can simply put on a black outfit and a mask and your costume is set. Because of this, masks can easily be the least expensive costume you can buy.
Of course there are some dangers to wearing a mask. Not wearing a mask properly can lead to problems. Check that you can breathe clearly through both your mouth and nose, and that you it doesn't cover your eyes. Try on the mask and make sure it's right for you. And of course, take it off when driving to be on the safe side.
One problem with wearing a mask is that they can be really warm. If you're walking through the neighborhood or it's chilly outside, wearing a mask may not be a problem. But in a crowded room with lots of people, a mask can get uncomfortable. Make sure you don't get too hot by taking off your mask every so often, and drink plenty of liquid. Painting your face or not wearing a mask is sometimes a good idea.
Lastly, masks can be expensive. Although buying just a mask is a cheap kind of Halloween costume, some of the more detailed masks can be pricey. Remember also that you can make great Halloween costumes for free from your own closet. If you want to wear a Halloween mask, make sure that you budget for his additional cost.
Halloween masks don't suit everyone. A mask may look awesome but if you're not comfortable or worried about your safety, wear it for only a short time. Or use it as a decoration in your home. Remember safety first not matter how cool the mask is.
