The IPL – a wonderful, even if controversial, idea

This Sports Article is Brought To You By - Ken Wilson

We are familiar, here, on the IPL Cricket Forum, with one approach to IPL cricket, which goes totally against the money-involved-in-the-game idea. Many people assume that this outline of the game is the perfect mistake, so to say. Even more, pushing the negative view to the extreme, they assume that the Indian Premier League is the same with kismet unfolding unfavorably for this exquisite game.

The members of the IPL Cricket Forum community have heard it many times (many of them even share this opinion themselves). The IPL is often viewed on as an approach copying the layout of a European Football club. Furthermore, even if some of the best players (that appear listed on the IPL Cricket Forum as well) take part in the League, many people consider them too tired out to be able to play the game any longer. People assume that, once money has been laid down, these players will not have the time necessary to recover after the games, as they will have to play very soon again.

Well, indeed – and this is a shared opinion on the IPL Cricket Forum – money does not mean everything. With so many funds involved, it does not instantly mean that the IPL is an instant winner. We are talking about a sport – which means a great deal of preparation, skill and a bit of luck for the players to lead their teams towards victory. Of course that money is not everything.

However, the IPL strives to prove that money can have an influence on the development of the best players. Motivated by the higher pay, they will give their best in the game. Many opinions go to the extreme with the popularity of cricket in India owed mainly to the fact that the game stands for India. It is sport mania, indeed, mixed with national pride, which sometimes overlooks financial necessities.

On the other hand, the IPL would unquestionably facilitate the progress of cricket, as a greater number of players will have the opportunity to prove what they are truly made of (authentic valuable sports material). Furthermore, younger enthusiasts will feel more stimulated to engage in playing cricket as a 20Twenty vocation, i.e. as a career that can bring profit at the financial level as well, not only at the level of the patriotic feeling.

Are you truly convinced that the Indian Premier League is going to change in depth what Indian cricket stands for? Do you think that it is going to modify in a negative manner the approach undertaken by players when in the game? Cricket will remain cricket, no matter what, only what changes is the format – we have seen a transition from five day test to one day events and then on to this 20Twenty exciting format. The manner in which it goes on does not depend completely on the fact that a commercial aspect has been given to it. On the contrary, the development of the game will have a lot to do with the skills of the players, with the weather and field conditions, with the pitch, and so on. Truly, money is not everything, if you get what we mean.
