Developing nice-looking, strong, and chiseled pectorals can be accomplished by using a combination of some of the best chest exercises. One of the best chest exercises commonly done by fitness freaks is the bench press. Others refer it as the chest press. This exercise works out the major muscle groups of the chest, shoulder muscles and the triceps.

The bench press consists of some pretty basic moves. Lie on bench and hold the weight directly above the chest. Slowly bring the weight down to a point where the elbows are bent 90 degrees and then lift the weight directly over the chest, without locking your elbows.

Several variations can be done with the bench press. You can make use of a barbell or dumbbells. You can also use resistance bands and perform this exercise standing up.

We have just seen several variations of the bench press. If you're new to this exercise, it is probably best to start with the basics and move to the more advanced techniques as you get stronger.

Push ups also fit into the best chest exercises category. Most people try to add several repetitions of push ups, because it is such a good exercise to strengthen several muscles in the body, particularly the chest muscles and the arms.

To perform a basic push up, place the hands shoulder width apart, with your lower body supported by your toes or knees. Proceed to go down until your triceps are parallel to the floor and then push yourself up without locking your elbows.

It is more difficult to do push ups on your toes. You can also create several variations for push ups by using a gym ball to incorporate balance training. You can also choose to add resistance as you progress.

Another exercise to get the chest muscles stronger is the chest fly. This exercise is also performed on a bench, with the arms extended directly over the body, with weights in both hands. The palms should be facing in. The weights should then be slowly lowered out beside the body, slightly bending the elbows and then returning the arms to the original position.
