The traditional Wine Festival, one of Central Europe’s biggest wine celebrations, attracts many people to Budapest from all around the world to taste the best wines of the Hungarian winegrowers.

On the Wine Exhibition and Fair more than hundred exhibitors introduce their over thousand wines for sampling. For nearly two weeks in September the Budapest Wine Festival welcomes 15 countries and 200 vineyards showcasing 3,000 different wines!

Wine tasting is the central part of the festival, but in addition to sipping the nectar of the gods, you will have ample opportunity to partake in any of the numerous Budapest Wine Festival events.

The Buda Castle will host an array of activities and events like wine classes, wine academy, lectures, workshops, parades, concerts and even court jesters. There are stages set up around Buda Castle featuring Hungarian folk music during the festival. Food is a major part of the Budapest Wine Festival, and chefs and restaurants will set up stalls featuring delicious food with suggested wine pairings. One of the most popular Budapest Wine Festival events is the 3-day course for wine lovers organized by the Wine University. The classes focus on grape varieties, international wines tasting and a lot more.

Also, at the Hungarian National Gallery is organized an exhibition about the history of wine-growing and drinking in Hungary whilst a Vintage Procession with the various wine regions parading in folk costumes, dancing, music and performances and a concert will entertain the crowds on Saturday night. In fact, on Saturday a colossal parade with around 800 representatives from the various wine regions will stage a procession and a show with dancing and music around the Buda Castle district dressing in folk costumes. Not to be missed!

The traditional closing concert by the Danube Symphony Orchestra is also a social occasion to collect money for the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service.

A sister venue of the Wine Festival is the Hungarian Open Air Museum (Skanzen) at Szentendre, where, along with tasting, cellar visits, music, comedy, children's play areas and activities, the most important event is the choosing of the Vintage Queen. There is also the possibility to join a two days wine boat that runs from Budapest to Szentendre and back again.
