Did you know that the bacteria that causes bad breath can be killed off by a substance from the bark of a magnolia tree? This is the latest research just out and it was conducted bya famous company which makes mints. Obviously looking to make a killing with a new mint! They found that when this substance was used in a mint, it killed off 60% of the bacteria which cause bad breath, compared with a normal mint which killed off a mere 4%!
Bad breath is one of the major social and psychological problems facing people to-day and is a barrier to social relationships. It is such a problem that it affects the majority of people so it is definitely a problem. If it is any consolation ,dogs, cats and babies suffer from it too !
How do you know you have it ? The easiest way to determine if one has bad breath is to ask someone who is trustworthy or simply ask your doctor or dentist. Another, more private, method of determining if one has bad breath is to lick one's wrist, wait until it dries, then smell the area. Scraping the rear area of the tongue with a plastic spoon, then smelling the spoon, is another method one can use to assess bad breath.
What is the cause ? Persistent bad breath is usually caused by the smelly gases released by the bacteria that coat your teeth and gums. Cigarette smoking can also lead to bad breath, not only in the smoker, but also in someone constantly exposed to second hand smoke. A diet high in fats, spicy foods, or one that includes coffee may contribute to unpleasant breath odours. Of course garlic and onions are a cause of bad breath in the short term so you have to think ahead ! Parsley, a good brushing (don't forget the tongue!) and a mouthwash or mint (preferably with magnolia bark!) will usually solve that little problem.
Most people think that mouthwashes are the solution but in fact this is a only a very short terrm solution and does not address the real cause of the problem. Other people go to the other extreme and become obsessive or manic about their breath and may well have to have counselling. Howeevr the real cause in many cases, apart from bad oral hygiene, are medical conditions such as gum disease, dry mouth, bronchitis, sinusitis, diabetes and liver and kidney disease.
Oil-containing mouthwashes are now gaining popularity as a home-based cure for bad breath. Most cases of bad breath are the results of bad oral hygiene- that means a build up in bacteria and that will cause your breath to become offensive and unpleasant. Some mouthwashes containing zince have been found to be effective. Then there are a whole range of mouthwashes containing antibacterial agents such as cetylpyridinium chloride, zinc gluconate, essential oils and cholride dioxide. Diet with fresh fruits (apples and citrus) together with celery help to keep a healthy mouth together with plenty of water to stave off a dry mouth.
Some people recommend homeopathic treatment (nux vomica and kali phosphoricum are often cited). The best way of tackling this problem is to acertain the cause and that may involve a change of medication. It could involve a visit to the dentist, if for example bleeding gums or gum disease are contributing to the problem. In the last analysis, most bad breath problems can be resolved by maintaining good oral hygiene and medical care.
So, while we will have to wait a while for magnolia bark mints to solve the problem, in the meantime, we will have to look for quicker solutions. the site below will explain all about bad breath and offer a fast long term solution.
