If your winter travels take you to Michigan, you should definitely visit Nub's Nob Ski Resort. Nub's Nob is widely considered to have the best snow in the Midwest, and the resort has earned the distinction of being a family-friendly mountain. Generations of parents have taken their children to Nub's Nob for their very first ski run.
Nub's Nob has a fairly simple mountain layout, with a 1,338 foot elevation and a 427 foot vertical drop. There are 43 trails and eight chair lifts. It's a resort that appeals to all skill levels, with one of the best skiing and snowboarding schools in the country offering private and group lessons. If you are brand new, or relatively inexperienced at the sport, you can even learn to ski free, and take advantage of Nub's Cubs Childcare Center while you learn. Nub's Nob offers great programs for beginners, but that doesn't mean that intermediate or even expert skiers won't be challenged here as well. The diverse terrain is definitely challenging, and night skiing brings another exciting level to your experience. The Ski School offers training programs for advanced skiers who are curious about racing, and many racing events are held at the resort. You can sign up for race leagues at the resort, and many league events are scheduled each season. If you need equipment, you can rent it at the resort. A general store is also available with gloves, hats, neck warmers and a variety of other items. Visit the technology center when you need to have your skis tuned or fixed. You're bound to work up an appetite on the slopes, and there are several options to satisfy your hunger. The cafeteria is open for breakfast and lunch, and a "brown bag" room is available for anyone bringing their own lunch. Weather permitting, you can enjoy a grilled burger at Nub's Winter Garden, and when you reach the top of the Black Lift, be sure to visit the Pintail Peak Warming Hut for homemade soups, sandwiches and breathtaking views. Nub's Nob is definitely the place to be for a fun family ski vacation. From skiers just starting out, to experts interested in racing and skill events, there is so much to see and do. Your biggest challenge may be deciding what to do first! Don't worry about missing anything, though -- if you want to ski right away and board later, you can do that. Most events are planned for the weekends, so arrange your schedule so that you can attend or participate in the planned events.
