The largest organ of the body is it's skin. This is what protects us from the elements, dehydration and even bacteria. The skin is the body's first line of defense. It is durable and repairs itself from damage. So, what do we do to protect it? There are a few ideas for some serious skin care so you can help your skin while it is protecting you.
Serious skin care should be a daily exercise. When it comes to your face, avoid deodorant soaps, which have a tendency to cause dryness, flaking and even cracking. Using products designed for your skin type is a smart move. Using products that are specifically designed for daily use is a good thing to keep in mind. Beware of scrubs and certain care products that contain Salicylic Acid, for when used in combinations with some products it too, may cause drying and even irritation.
If you have sensitive skin, you should be aware that products that contain alpha hydroxyl acid can make your skin even more sensitive and at greater risk for sunburn. Many products containing this ingredient will have a warning label, so remember to check when shopping for serious skin care.
Block that sun! You have been hearing it for years now, but it's important enough to say again. "Use your sunblock!" While the brand is up to you, most dermatologists recommend a broad spectrum SPF30, one which blocks both UVA and UVB rays. It also doesn't hurt to reapply after swimming or exertion. Remember you can get a sunburn skiing the slopes too.
Don't forget to protect your lips either. Women using shiny glosses for that summer shimmer can be endangering their skin more. You needn't give up that summer favorite, just put a layer of lip balm or gloss which has sunscreen in it.
Covering up before you go out can also help you protect your skin. A light weight shirt can cover shoulders and arms and help prevent sun burn and damage. A hat can be worn to help protect the nose, forehead, scalp and ears. These areas get the most exposure so a little additional care can't hurt.
Finally, hydrate from the inside out. The first part of your body to show the symptoms of dehydration is your skin. While the latest hydrating lotions may put moisture on the surface, you also require the moisture from within.
Taking care of our skin that takes care of us should be our number one rule. Serious skin care procedures and good practices, will keep our skin healthy and us looking better. This skin is ours for life, and a few minutes a day will go a long way.
