Self motivation, a most essential concept, is difficult to master because we have so much negativity to face, be it from ourselves or others. If self esteem is low, creativity is stifled. If you get excited about your idea, it is often squashed by the negativity of others before you even finish your pitch! Don't be discouraged! The self motivated person takes it in stride, grows stronger from it and produces! Here are some ideas to promote positive energy and encouragement for you.
Understand yourself; your self concept. You have strengths and weaknesses unique to you. Play on them. Assign yourself things you enjoy which will provide a steady stream of small accomplishments. The result will be the motivation to proceed and also tackle the bigger, less enjoyable tasks.
Track your achievements. Put your goals on paper. Now cross them off when you are finished and congratulate yourself for a job well done every single time. If you do not realize what you are accomplishing, you will get in a rut and face each day with dread rather than excitement.
Big projects are daunting so break them down into smaller tasks which can be completed swiftly, motivating you to move on to the next part. The big project will get done quicker and you will feel successful.
Mingle with like minded folks. Even people with the best intentions can suck the energy right out of you and your creative self. You cannot change your Sister's negativity and lack of imagination, but you can choose the role she plays in your life. Find someone with common goals and interests to share ideas with and keep each other excited. It goes a long way.
Avoid tension and anger. They slow you down and accomplish nothing. If something goes wrong, take your lumps and move on.
Be good to your body. Feed it and exercise it. Mind and body are powerful together when well maintained, yet we often neglect them in favor of that few extra minutes of work. That is a bad plan because if the body quits performing, your productivity ends.
In the beginning I said it is difficult to maintain self motivation. But if you look at it another way, it is the most simple because YOU are in control. YOU give yourself the encouragement and motivation you need to succeed, without having to wait on the response or action of anybody else. When you are feeling good about yourself and the situation, there is no limit to what you can achieve.
