There are many advertisements on TV, radio, in news papers as well as on Internet that they can clean up your bad credit statement. But most of these companies turn out to be fraud. Instead of believing in their claims, one can improve his/her credit history easily. Here are some tips on how it can be done:
Step One: In writing, inform the consumer report agency about the items considered to be inaccurate. Enclose copies of the original paperwork that supports your claims. You should also include your full name, address and state clearly the items that are in dispute and why.
At this point, you sincerely request that these items be removed. It is recommended that this letter be sent by certified mail.
Consumer reporting agencies must consider and forward the disputed items, usually in 30 days. When the information contributor gets notice about a disagreement from this consumer reporting agency, it should examine and evaluate the relevant information, finally reporting back the outcome to that consumer company.
In the next step, the company has to provide the client with the results along with the contact name, phone number and the address of the information provider. The company cannot return doubtful information back into the credit file unless the information provider confirms it to be accurate.
Step Two: Of course there will be times that the disputed information will be considered accurate and timely. At this point, your next step is to turn to the creditor. Send the documentation (copies) to the creditor concerning the items in dispute.
Remember to include photocopies of all the original documents. The majority of providers will have a specific address for disputes. When the provider reports an item to a consumer reporting agency, it has to include a notice of your dispute.

It is recommended by some consumer advocates to occasionally review your credit statement for the following reasons:
1- The influence that credit reports have on percentage points when getting a loan.
2- To make sure that your credit report is correct in advance before applying for a mortgage or a car loan.
3- To prevent identity theft. Identity thieves will use your information to commit fraud. It is important to be careful with your credit information.
Inaccurate reports could also affect one's ability in getting insurance, credit or even jobs.
That is all, to some extent about credit repair. It is very important to have patience; credit agencies sometimes act very uncooperatively. Nothing to worry, just be a little careful, and hope you'll be able to handle credit problems yourself.
