For anyone who has experienced an anxiety attack, they will quickly recognize the physical symptoms. Along with their breathing becoming heavier, they will sweat, suffer chest pains, they notice numbness in their extremities and they begin to shake uncontrollably. Some people may find that they only suffer a few of the physical symptoms of an anxiety attack, but others may find themselves having to deal with them all.

Someone who is suffering a panic attack may feel that they are having a heart attack or nervous breakdown. Because of this, some people call an ambulance and have themselves taken to a hospital. While this is not always necessary, it certainly can't hurt to have the care of a professional to help you through the attack. If you suffer from severe anxiety, however, you may have already discovered some other ways to alleviate the symptoms.

It is believed that an anxiety attack is related to our bodies response to survive and not only do human suffer from this condition so do animals as well. It is this response that we have to certain situations which has ensured our survival. Normally such attacks will occur when the body is responding instinctively to a situation, but there is no apparent cause for it being triggered in the first place.

Recent studies have shown that repeated panic attacks can increase a person's chances of suffering a stroke or heart attack in the future. People with a singular panic attack, but no history of anxiety disorder are not likely to suffer any heart damage or serious lasting effects.

It is not clear, however if the increased risk posed to regular sufferers is caused by the attacks or is merely related to them. Some doctors even argue that the medications prescribed for anxiety disorder put people at risk of cardiovascular events. Either way, a panic attack is a clear sign that something is not well, and the problem must be dealt with, not the symptoms.

Dealing with panic attacks is not always easy. Doctors can treat the symptoms, but often the underlying cause of the attack is within the person themselves. Different types of therapy exist to seek out and deal with whatever is causing the undue stress on a person's system. Cognitive behavioral therapy is one of the most effective methods, using the person's own willpower to alter reactions to certain stressful situations.

Quite a few people will use deep breathing exercises or other kinds of relaxation techniques for helping to bring the physical symptoms of an anxiety attack under control. Along with these exercises and techniques they may also under take massage or aromatherapy and some people will use them in conjunction with acupuncture treatment. But no matter what any one else thinks, it is important that when treating the physical symptoms associated with these kinds of attacks is not just a case of a person trying to think more positively.

Anxiety is a real medical condition and must be treated as such. Hopefully, with careful attention, anyone can beat the crippling effects of anxiety.
