There exists a very unique world of fantasy and comedy in the world of television series and Pushing Daisies fits perfectly into this. In Pushing Daisies Season 1 life and death are normal occurrences, but one man named Ned wields an extraordinary amount of power over them. This is a modern day fairy tale series that deals with unconsummated romance themes and various crime scene puzzles. It usually focuses on some strange and horrible tragedies, but its solid sense of humor keeps it from getting too serious. Despite all of the dark humor though, there is still a strong presence of sadness in the Pushing Daisies Season 1.
Ned is the main character and is the one who is both blessed and cursed with the ability to bring things and people back from the dead. He is a pie maker and he is portrayed by the American actor, Lee Pace. His journey has not been all good because he had to learn about his gift he possessed the hard way. When he was a young boy, his mother died of an aneurism and he was able to bring her back to life by touching her, but this is when he learned that it would be at a price. Shortly after reviving his mother his neighbor dropped dead, but it also happened to be the father of his childhood sweetheart. This happens because it provides a level of balance in the world, but sadly, when his mom tucks him in at that night and kisses him she dies, and this time it is permanent. It is then that he realizes he can touch someone to bring them back from the dead, but touching them a second time kills them for good.
Years later, when the show takes place he is at a baker at his store, The Pie Hole. He decides to team up with a private investigator and help him solve crime related deaths; initially he does this for the money alone. One of the cases that he works on is about the death of his childhood sweetheart, Charlotte Charles, who he refers to as Chuck. He finds out that she was killed by an attacker, but he brings her back to life and she learns about his secret talent. Someone nearby dies when this happens, but all Ned can think about is his excitement that she is back in his life. Unfortunately, he knows that they can never have any type of physical contact or else she will be gone forever.
