The stars have finally aligned and you are ready for that big trip to so and so country. Now all you have to do is figure out what to take with you. It may sound simple, but you will soon find out it is not.
First things first, you are not moving to Mars. As hard as this may be to believe, the country you are going to actually sells clothes. Yes, even in your size. My point is that you do not need to take things you MIGHT need.
So, what should you pack. The first step is not to buy a bunch of new stuff. Instead, focus on the stuff you like wearing that is comfortable and not delicate. Pack it! New stuff is dangerous as you may find it is uncomfortable with extended wear.
You are going to walk more than you usually do once you are on your trip. Make sure you have shoes that are in good shape, but worn in. If you need new ones, buy them a month ahead of time and break them in so your feet will not blister.
The most important piece of your clothing ensemble may seem to be underwear, but it is not. Nope. All travelers bow before the altar of the clean socks. Whatever you do, take plenty of clean cotton socks. Your feet will thank you.
Being color co-ordinated on your travels is a controversial subject. On one hand, you don't know anyone so who cares? If you feel differently, try to pack clothes in one color scheme. You can trade them in and out and still look decent.
If you don't wear it at home, don't take it. There is some twisted section of the mind of the average traveler that causes this to happen. They will always pack some rarely worn item as though a new country will create the perfect scenario for wearing it!
It helps to know the customs of your destination. Although certain areas may have hot weather, shorts and other clothing that exposes skin may be frowned upon. This can be a serious issue for women in certain countries. Know before you go.
Packing for your trip should be about getting the maximum light stuff in the smallest space possible. The best way to do this is to take rollable clothes. Think wrinkle free. Just roll them up and stick them in. A good use of space.
Don't stress out when packing. You will inevitably forget something. This is just the nature of things. Having traveled for years, I can tell you that the forgotten item can always be found eventually in whatever location you find yourself.
