Parts. We are all made up of parts. A part of me wants a bagel with cream cheese, but another part of me really wants to continue to become healthier. Part of me wants to go take a nap, but this other part wants to finish the project I started. We divide ourselves into parts as a way to talk about our experiences.
What I want you to realize, however, is that the words we speak are real, tangible things. They are as real as the pen I'm using to write, the chair I'm sitting on, and the cup of tea I'm drinking.
People fractionalize themselves into subsections when they have to say or do something that might be hard for them or a little uncomfortable. If this part of them doesn't want your product or service, it's that entity that is making the decision and not them, taking the responsibility away from them.
I love to hear a person say they have a 'part'. I know that inside they have segmented themselves and I can seize control of one or many of these parts and persuade them with ease.
Some alternate names for 'part' are 'the unconscious', 'my psyche', 'my ego', 'a deeper part of who I am'. . .All of these indicate 'part' and in my mind I know I am going to make contact with that part specifically, because obviously it speaks to this person.
Parts are, for the most part, very outside of people's awareness. They may surface and as they do, you can add or extend the parts, elaborating to give them more power, or you can minimize the part if it's not working to your advantage.
In order to protect yourself in the process of this and in life in general, me careful. not to split yourself into pieces.
A 'part' is a frame that lives within the individual who named it but we can also create a part in someone else. By naming and identifying a part, we bring it into being and give it power. Framing that part in the way we talk gives us control over it to a large extent.
We can gain tremendous leverage from parts by assigning an objection to that part and then assigning another part to overcome the objection creating an internal conflict which we can then blend and water down to balance out the objection.
Once we create the parts, we can pit them against each other. There can be parts that are senior and junior, superior and inferior, parts that relate directly to God and parts that can resolve problems.
I have a part of me that excels in persuasion. I hope you will too soon if you don't already.
