The busiest time of year for a fitness club is just after Christmas but many people stop attending within a few months after joining so if you join a club you want to make sure they will motivate you enough to keep coming back. Before you choose to join you first need to decide what your priority is and make sure that it suits your needs and goals.
Here are some guidelines you can consider in choosing a fitness club that is best for you: Probably the most important consideration is the location, those clubs that are have the best attendance are either located close to home or work, anywhere outside of this and you will probably make excuses as to why you cannot go.
Your fitness instructor also needs to be well trained and a good motivator if you are to become interested and excited about working out. If you have particular requirements, needs or desires, your instructor needs to know, this will ensure they are fully qualified to teach you.
You can ask the staff what services they offer, this will give you the chance to find out how helpful, friendly and professional they are. The really good fitness clubs have specially trained staff that may focus on aspects of diet, nutrition or even professional physiotherapists.
Often it is the open times of fitness clubs that shoot them down and the standard range of offered programs is not varied enough to suit most peoples needs. If you have specific classes in mind, make sure they have them available at the times you need before you join the fitness club; good clubs will offer all programs several times a week.
Take a look around the fitness club to see if they have enough equipment for everyone or you will find you have to wait at busy times which will put you off on attending. Modern equipment is safer and more comfortable to use but machines and other training facilities should be in clean and in good working order so if you see a lot of 'out of order' signs, it may mean they are not well maintained.
Almost all clubs have a healthy social calendar and this is a good time before you join to perhaps meet few members who you might be able to interact with when you're training. Whilst you are doing this research into the club, find out if the membership cost is fairly stable each year and if there are any other costs involved not mentioned up front.
Before you make your final decision, check a few other fitness clubs that are local as well as there is nothing worse that finding another, better club after you have already paid and joined another. Take your time and don't let any club rush you into joining. The best club that wants you as a member will put your needs first and stand out above the others in that they are care about your happiness while you use their club.
