If you are a regular martial arts practitioner and
study and train regularly I commend you on your
efforts. But today I will address a problem
associated with black belt instructors who may be
teaching counter productive self defense techniques
without providing the real feel of a street attack.
Basically these martial arts instructors are doing
simple and easy movements like grabbing the students
wrist without escalating the attack. A real bad guy
will grab your wrist, strike you with his free hand
while physically shoving you and offering you
resistance and throwing an arsenal of strikes.
I believe that on top of performing the wrist grab
escape technique that extra emphasis be placed on
active aggression, striking, speed, adaption and
the ability to stay focused mentally by being calm.
Unfortunately having someone bear hug you inside
a dojo is fine and dandy, but if he is doing it half
assed with no real effort, physical emphasis or
aggression, a real attack on the street will
mentally rock your world and will be a hundred
times more vicious and stressful then doing
routine boring drills.
Each self defense counter and drill should have the
base element of fear, stress, extreme force, real
pressure in the attack and drilling to combat the
stress and mental trauma to condition your mind &
brain to be able to handle the threat in a real
situation where you use your self defense techniques!
The element of shock, and switching your natural
reaction from fear to intense aggression without
being afraid of injury will almost certify you
will survive a real self defense scenario.
Most bad guys that attack people expect their victim
to submit at will with no physical reaction or any
form of violence. Another point I would like to make
is that you should always start the fight with the
first strike when you feel endangered.
It will throw off your attackers equilibrium and
plan of action when he confronts you with violence.
Unleash hell and do not stop until you or your
loved one can safely escape further harm even
running away from a stunned and dazed opponent is
the smartest option.
