How Necessary is Dog Training?
Dog training is a fine art process, not a science. Many educators and their facilities produce an instruction technique. Dogs will always be dogs and humans will continually try to make their dog into a furry person. Dog Training is as important as feeding and watering. How to Train Dogs - No Hitting Allowed

This Pets and Animals Article is Brought To You By - Lisa Murray

Figuring out how to train dogs is tricky stuff. Okay so your dog just peed on the floor for the tenth time today and it's only ten in the morning! Don't throw your hands up in exasperation just yet. You need to have a plan of how to train dogs that makes the process a good one for both your dog and you.

I know that spanking a dog with the rolled up newspaper is the dog training method of choice for some but this just doesn't cut it for many dog owners. (Not to mention that poor dog!) Many dog experts will tell you that you'll get far better results with positive reinforcement than any other method. Plus your dog will love you for it!

Although at times it may seem like your dog's sole mission on earth is to drive you absolutely nutty, that's not true by a long shot. The problem is you've probably gotten so caught up in trying to figure out how to train dogs that you've forgotten that all your dog really wants is to make you happy. He's just not sure how to do that.

Positive reinforcement is a great way to train dogs, and you'll find that with just a little bit of work, even older dogs can be trained to follow basic commands. Don't ever believe that an old dog can't learn new tricks, so make sure that you teach any dog you own basic commands like "sit," "lie down," and "heel."

The key when starting out with the positive reinforcement method is to give your dog a cue that you will use consistently throughout training. It doesn't matter whether it's word or a gesture. Your cue will signal your dog to perform the desired action so make sure it's something that's relatively easy to understand.

For instance, when you are teaching your dog to sit, tell him "sit" in a loud and clear voice, and press his hindquarters down. When he has done this, even with your help, give him plenty of praise and perhaps a treat. This is the way to make him associate obedience with your approval.

Remember that should only reward your dog when he performs at your command. If, for instance, he comes up and sits or rolls over without any prompting for you, do not give him a treat. If you do, you can think of it as him training you, instead!

Also keep in mind the fact that if you are trying to train a destructive behavior out of a dog that you should not scream at him. Losing control and yelling or hitting your dog will only teach him to be afraid of you, and nervous dogs will often do a lot more damage than calm ones. Only reprimand your dog if you actually catch him in the bad behavior, so make sure that you are there to see it!

With patience and a little effort you'll have your dog trained in no time. You'll feel comfortable with your dog's behavior and your dog will be happy because he's pleasing his owner.
