On any typical morning so many busy Moms start the day with a hot cup of coffee to "wake up" and get them through another busy morning. And Moms go through the rest of their morning with the subconscious guilt of knowing that, love it or hate it; they should have had a healthy breakfast.
Okay, breakfast may not be your meal of choice but as a Mom you know its important for your children's proper growth and development. Breakfast is an easy meal to "miss" because a busy Mom's time focuses on looking after her family's needs and demands during the morning rush. Thus, breakfast can seem more of a hindrance than a necessity to the morning flow of activity. And a Mom can reassure herself that she can "catch up" with fueling her body later by eating a hearty lunch.
A non-fat-no-foam latte at Starbucks or a McDonald's sausage, egg and cheese McGriddle is not the breakfast of champions but of convenience. If you want to lose the pregnancy weight the smart way, you have to re-examine how, what and when you eat. Most importantly you need to factor in a healthy breakfast into your morning routine.
1. Breakfast is easy.
Skipping breakfast because you forgot or can't find the time to prepare it will not help you to lose the baby fat. It will leave you with less energy and make you more irritable. Breakfast can seem bothersome but you have to make the time to eat a healthy breakfast. There are many free, quick and easy healthy recipes and ideas online to choose from.
A healthy breakfast is as simple as a Strawberry smoothie, a Kashi-Go Lean energy bar or a bowl of Nature's Path Raisin Bran cereal with skim milk and some strawberries. Most of these simple healthy breakfasts don't require a lot of time to prepare and can make losing pregnancy weight faster because you will boost your metabolism and burn more calories. All that is required is that you take the initiative to plan ahead and make time for breakfast.
2. Breakfast boosts your metabolism.
It would seem logical that skipping meals such as breakfast will help you to lose your tummy. But this is not the case. Your body's energy is obtained from your food. Your metabolism controls the rate at which the energy from your food gets burned or used up. However, your metabolism is governed by the amount of energy your body has and needs. Thus, when you don't eat breakfast you start your day with a low energy tank because you did not "top up" your energy tank with breakfast. This results in your metabolism working at minimum in order to conserve your "energy" reserves. Your body's metabolism essentially goes into "starvation" mode and burns fewer calories because your body is not receiving enough energy to satisfy your energy demands of being a busy Mom.
3. Your body needs a healthy Breakfast.
You are a busy Mom and Moms need energy. Choosing a fast-food breakfast is convenient but it will not help you to lose the pregnancy weight fast. Instead, it will provide you with very little nutritional benefits and plenty of fat and calories to keep you from losing the baby fat. A healthy breakfast should have the following food groups: protein, complex carbohydrate in wholegrain form such as oatmeal and a simple carbohydrate such as fruit. Be a smart consumer. Look for natural foods with natural ingredients that are high in fiber and low in sugar, fat and salt.
It's time to kick the bad habit of just having that morning coffee or skipping breakfast to start your day. By eating a healthy breakfast, you can boost your metabolism to burn the baby fat and trim your tummy. Incorporating breakfast as a "must have" into your morning routine will keep your energy up and your super Mom status intact. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so keep it that way for you and your family.
