Why is writer's block such a problem and what is it exactly?
Geesh! I've got nothing to write and it just won't come. Nothiiiiiing!
Do you have this challenge from time to time or even all the time? I don't want this but it just happens and it stops me dead in my tracks! It's that terrifying experience of.....
WRITER'S BLOCK!!!
Yuck! I sit and think and think and the harder I try the less that comes out to put on that blasted page.
Writer's block is an absolute enraging and desperate experience. All you want to do is write, but it just won't come about however hard you try.
You break into a cold sweat as you try to force something out. The harder you try, the worse it gets. You scream at the top of your lungs scaring everybody in your house, but it doesn't make anything start working for you.
So what brings on writer's block?
I think one of the reasons is fear. The fear of being able to write something that would be of value. It has to be a masterpiece or you'll have every critic knocking down your door. It could also very well be the fear of writer's block itself.
Writer's block is a condition that can strike anyone at anytime. The pressure is on as you need to deliver on each and every piece you do. All the critics and all the experts....
Here are some great tips you can put into use right now to blast away writer's block forever.
You may not believe it but WRITER'S BLOCK CAN BE OVERCOME.
Please, remain seated.
[1] Know your topic. If you prepare properly and really know your subject, you will likely have a lot to write about. Research will not only prepare you to write, but will bring you confidence. You'll know what you're talking about and it will come out.
[2] Forget about being perfect. When you are experiencing writer's block you need to forget about writing and just type or write about any thoughts that come to mind. Even if it doesn't make any sense, just get it out on paper. Keep writing whatever comes to mind. I'm serious, even if you think it's silly, right it down. Forget about what your drafts will look like. Don't judge what is worthy to go down on paper or not. Write it all down and you will be surprised at not only what comes out of you, but the fact that you are writing and thats what counts.
[3] Don't edit while you are writing. This goes along with the last tip. Don't even care about how the words come out. However they come out, write them down without being concerned with the grammar, spelling, sentence structure, etc. You just want the thoughts to come out without the structure holding you back. Write like you were just talking to a buddy on your porch. Remember you can go back later and make it readable. All that counts is the final draft.
[4] Forget about the first sentence. Get rid of writer's block by writing down what comes to mind in any order. You don't have to always start with the beginning. Start at the end if that's all you can think of in your writing. As you get something started, you will activate your mind in a way and the other parts of your article will surface.
[5] Act as if. You act like you are a great writer that always has something great to say, you will have something to say. There is real power in acting like what you want to be. You have the talent in you and as you act confident, you will be able to write.
[6] As the old Nike slogan says, "Just do it!" Don't procrastinate any longer. Keep all your information by your side and just start writing. If you don't know what to say, then use the ideas and thoughts of other. Nothings original and thoughts can't be copyrighted. Remember you don't want to copy anyone word for word because thats plagiarism and illegal. You take the thoughts of others and put them into your own words, add to it with your own ideas and experiences and your unique writing style. This then becomes your original work
To summarize, you can get over your writer's block. You might not think your writing is the greatest, but don't let that stop you. There's always those out there that will learn from you and will appreciate what you're writing. The more you write the better you'll get, so just keep going and you will even surprise yourself.
