How many times have you been presented with the need to give your child's teacher a gift and are left with ideas that seem trite and overused? Just how many trinkets with apples on them can one teacher use?
My kids' teachers are no different than me. They are trying their best to balance the demands of their job with their home life. If I'm going to show my appreciation for all their hard work with my children what would be better than to acknowledge that I realize they are working hard? So, why not give gifts that will make the teachers' lives a bit easier? There are gift certificates to restaurants (who wouldn't like that!). Go beyond a briefcase (too stuffy for most teachers) and get them a personalized tote. Tote bags can range from simple to elegant and most have plenty of room to help any teacher get their goods to and from the classroom. If a bag is too big then think small and technical. I'm talking about a gift of electronics or at least some accessory. Cases for their ipod or cell phone can be invaluable. But maybe you don't know if they carry those things or what type of cell phone they have. Consider some other modestly priced item for the classroom that if a teacher wanted they'd have to pay for themselves. School budgets are so very tight these days. One of my greatest joys is getting away from the family for a little 'me' time. This is the time I look forward to for relaxation. I'm guessing that teachers have the same desires. Whether we look to getting a spa gift for a woman or maybe some sports tickets for the sports enthusiast, the focus should be something that can take them away from the stress of their everyday lives.
