Gain Weight: Do You Need To?

This Muscle Building Article is Brought To You By - Roger Gordon

The big question for many women and men is: do I need to gain weight? There are many things that can affect our overall health. Studies show that people who have a normal and healthy body weight live the longest and seem to have the best health. People who are under weight, just as people who are over weight, could be putting their health and enjoyment of life at risk.

One reason that people may be underweight is due to a medical condition. There are certain health issues that can cause a person to be below what is considered to be a healthy weight. The thing to keep ion mind is that if you are underweight because of a health condition you most likely have other symptoms as well such as diarrhea or stomach upset.

You can, to some extent, change the way your body looks through a change in your diet as well as by adding weight training to your daily routine. However, even when you lift weights and change your diet you can never turn your body into that of a linebacker if your natural body type is that of a marathon runner. If you are trying to gain weight after you have had surgery or been ill it will much easier for you to gain weight than it is for someone who has a naturally thin body type.

Boys and girls in their early teens might want to gain weight because they feel that they are smaller than their peers. Many children are quite skinny until they reach the age of puberty at which time they start to gain weight and fill out.

Healthy people who are slender generally are in balance with their bodies and what they eat. Your normal weight is determined by your body type and by the genes that you have inherited from your parents. If you and your doctor determine that you are under weight and need to gain weight you'll have to alter the way you eat. Make sure that you plan a well balanced diet that is high in proteins and carbohydrates while at the same time is low in fat. You want the weight that you can to be in the form of muscle rather than fat. Fat gain leads to an unhealthy body with just as many health risks as when you are under weight.

One of the last things that you should look at before you decide that you want to gain weight is how you happy you are with your body image. What are the reasons that you want to gain weight? Make sure that you gain weight for the right reasons. You may be a bit under weight and just want to gain weight to improve your body image. The big question is whether an improvement in your body image is going to make you any happier.

Athletes may want to gain weight and build up their muscles so they can put more performance into their sport. All of the above reasons are sound and legitimate reasons for gaining weight. The thing to remember is that you gain weight the right way by eating a healthy diet with a balanced food plan.

With time and patience, and by eating balanced meals that are high in calories, you should notice that you are gaining weight. If you find no difference in your weight you might want to talk to your doctor to see if there are any medical reasons why you are unable to gain weight.
