Have you seen lots of ads for pills that you add to your gas tank and magically you will get 10, 20 and even 30% better fuel economy? There was a product made by Bioperformance. These pills were known as fuel pills or gas pills.
The Attorney General of Texas filed an action against Bioperformance. He stated "We will aggressively fight these con artists who cynically exploit the public's concerns about high gas prices to line their own pockets." He labeled them exactly what they are, con artists. It turns out, in fact, the fuel pill is basically the chemical equivalent of mothballs, which are toxic. Bioperformance was really only out to encourage the recruitment of more and more paying members into what seems to be pyramid scheme according to statements made by the attorney general. As incredible as it may seem, there are still products out there that are making the same claims all over again. One is MPG-Cap. Enviro-Max another one. They promise the same thing as the older fuel pill made by Bioperformance. They claim you will get increases in gasoline economy simply by dropping their pills into your gas tank. Most of their claims are based on testimonials from drivers. An average driver cannot scientifically make the comparisons they claim. To really do a believable test it needs to be done under controlled conditions with sophisticated and expensive equipment. Normal driving conditions preclude keeping conditions constant. Weather, traffic volume, accidents, road construction and stop light patterns all have a tremendous impact on fuel economy from day to day. There is no way an average driver can take those factors into consideration in order to run a sound test. A major part of the claim of Enviromax Plus is that it makes the fuel in your engine burn more completely. Enviro-max claims it will lower the unburned fuel in your engine from 15 percent down to 1 to 2 percent. Somewhere they forgot to tell you that todays engines actually burn gas with an efficiency of about 98 to 99 percent. So your engine already does what the company says it's product will help your car do. The bottom line, as is usually the case, if a claim seems to good to be true, it probably is! Don't believe the false claims of these modern day snake oil salesmen. Save your money!
