Front Sight Firearms Training Institute could have saved Monica-Thomas Harris, a West Covina woman, when Los Angeles County prosecutors failed to inform her about a plea deal in December, allowing her estranged husband to get out of jail. This is even after he pleaded guilty to threatening her with a stun gun. Curtis Bernard Harris, 34, kidnapped his estranged wife, Monica Thomas-Harris, 37, and shot her with a firearm before killing himself.

This was not the first time that Curtis Harris had terrorized his wife. In the past, he reportedly threatened her with her life. Last November, Harris took his wife from a West Covina park and handcuffed her to furniture at a nearby hotel, according to West Covina police. She did not report the incident right away, believing it would not happen again, police said. Two days later, Harris showed up at his wife's workplace in the City of Industry, somehow bribed her into his car, and bound her with duct tape and threatened her with a stun gun, police said. She escaped and reported both incidents to police, leading to his arrest Nov. 19.
