Front Sight Firearms Training Institute, in Pahrump, Nevada near Las Vegas is the only firearms training facility that should be considered when thinking about how to gain skills in self-defense. Front Sight, founded by Ignatius Piazza, is on 550 acres of land and uses the most up to date defense techniques. Not enough women think about owning a gun and not enough women learn how to protect themselves in dangerous situations. Ignatius Piazza has a goal and a mission to teach every person, especially women, the benefits of owning and using a firearm.
Take this sad story into consideration: In the days after a young woman was killed after being abducted on a popular North Georgia hiking trail, Jenny Hass said that she used to go on walks with her young son every day, but that after the woman’s death, her husband asked her to stop. The couple even discussed buying a gun. Fellow hikers told the police that that the woman, Meredith Emerson, had been talking to an older man who was also walking a dog. Emerson was described as a feisty and gregarious person who knew how to handle herself outdoors and that if anyone could survive the chilly overnight temperatures, she could. But hopes dimmed after the police identified the man last seen with her as Gary M. Hilton, a drifter with a criminal history who had intimidated hikers on other local trails. Hilton was apprehended in the parking lot of a convenience store near Cummings as he was cleaning out his van. Sadly, an autopsy revealed that Emerson was probably killed on January 4th, 2008, a fact that haunts many of the police officers and volunteers who had been searching tirelessly for her since January 1 (Brenda Goodman, NY Times).
Jenny Hass is smart to own a gun, but without proper training from facilities like Front Sight she may be more of a danger to herself than to an assailant. Ignatius Piazza’s courses at Front Sight emphasize that the key to properly using a firearm is an intellectual understanding and respect of such a powerful weapon. Instructors at Front Sight teach women the skills necessary to defend against an attacker with onsite practice at a shooting range on the 550 acre premises. Also beneficial to women is the Martial Arts course. Often women are grabbed from behind or otherwise surprised by their attackers. Surprise is one of the most successful tactics perpetrators use when attacking women. Women can use this to their advantage by surprising their aggressor with important key techniques taught at Front Sight. The aggressor is not expecting his women prey to fight back, and rightly so because most women in the United States are not prepared to be victims. A good education in self-defense helps women to learn how to be mindful of their environment, which alone may thwart an attacker, but the skills learned in a top notch firearms training facility will surely save her life.
