One of the best ways and also one of the most underestimated ways to deal with anxiety or panic attacks is your own mental power.
Many times, when you are on the verge of a panic attack, just by telling yourself positive affirmations, although you might not believe in them first, can make a huge difference in the way panic attack evolves. The words that you use are not that critical as long you can focus on them and take your focus off the panic attack itself.
On the other hand it is recommended that you use positive phrases like "Everything will be ok in just a second" or "It's going away, I feel better".
Most individuals will give in and will start thinking about panic attacks and the possibility of getting one for long periods of time. Such a fact alone can make the episodes worse and it is very important to take your mind off everything as much as possible.
Breathing techniques are excellent to solve panic attacks, but not everyone can master them immediately so telling yourself positive affirmations is a great way that can be very efficient when you are learning other ways to deal with panic attacks or when you just need to do something to solve the situation.
Naturally there are several different alternatives like Yoga, but why would you need something else and more complicated when the issue can be solved simply having a dialogue between you and yourself inside your brain.
One trick that worked in many cases of anxiety and panic attack sufferers was purchasing medication for the symptoms. As one feels the panic attack coming, patient can direct his/her focus on the pills.
He/she can start thinking whether to take the pills, consider pro's and con's of the situation. This will make the focus shift away from the panic attack and to the problem with taking drugs or not and this focus swift alone can be very beneficial in eliminating the attack itself. Patient should always congratulate him/herself after not taking the pills.
For most it can be difficult to think about positive words, thoughts or affirmations during a panic attack and coping with this situation can be hard although the issue can be solved in many cases with just inner dialogue. It's takes time and practise, but once you learn this skill, it will be worth it!
This might not work the first or even the second time, but having said that, you will see that positive thinking and affirmations are very useful when you are coping with panic attacks.
