Patrick Combs is an inspirational speaker. He's also a comedic entertainer and has a best-selling book, Major in Success. He would tell you that joy, passion, and gifts are three words that simply can't be separated. You can make yourself sick doing the same old thing day after day if it's something you don't truly enjoy. Joy comes from following your passions.
Obviously Patrick Combs has had many successes in his life. How did he do it? One step at a time. He'll be the first to tell you that concentrating on too many things at once will produce failure. You have to reach one passion at a time, making it a building block for the next. It all comes down to fear and faith. Fear is thinking something bad might happen without having proof of it. Faith is the opposite. Faith is hoping something will happen without having proof of it.
Have faith in your passions and take one step at a time toward them. Taking those baby steps toward your passions is easier said than done, though. Patrick Combs has had a lot of "shoulds" in his life just as the rest of us do. We all know how it feels when you "should" be doing this but you'd really rather be doing that. Taking steps means prioritizing your shoulds.
Week by week, prioritize your "shoulds." There are always things you think you should be doing that you don't really need to be doing. They're either not important or they're things someone else could be doing. Start at the bottom of your priority list and replace one of your "shoulds" with something you'd really like to be doing. Each week, replace another one. In no time your life will be full of passions rather than cluttered with "shoulds".
Ok, so maybe prioritizing your "shoulds" is a little easier said than done. Patrick Combs once felt that way as well. We all know what it's like to have hardships and doubts, hurdles and insecurities. To be unstoppable, you have to get past all that.
Did someone point out your failures today? Did someone tell you to get your head out of the clouds? If so, I bet you're going to bed feeling like a quitter. Patrick Combs is one coach who'll tell you to "sleep on it". If you wake up still feeling like a quitter, still listening to that doubtful voice in your head, you're probably not concentrating on your passions. If, however, you wake up ready to give your passions another try, you have the heart of a champion and can overcome adversities.
When working toward passions, Patrick Combs encourages people to keep a journal. Don't write down the awful things you hear. Write down only the encouraging words people have for you. Read them over and over. Take the comments to heart, and strive to do better. If you want to be a singer but can't carry a tune, sing! If you want to be a writer, write! Learn by doing, and don't give up.
If you're going to be successful, you'll have to go through a daily roller coaster ride. Patrick Combs rode it each day as well. It took three long years of mental roller coasters to become a successful comedian.
