There has been much discussion recently about prostate massage and the beneficial effects it can have on chronic prostatitis and BPH (enlarged prostate). Previously this was not even considered in medical circles but it is now gaining more credence.
Prostate massage can now complement many conventional treatments for chronic prostatatis and enlarged prostate, especially where treatment by antibiotics is not so effective. Not only does the massage relieve symptoms considerably, but it can reinvigorate the blood circulation around the prostate and help it to get rid of some debris.
If you have cancer of the prostate then this alternative is NOT for you as it can cause metastasis. Similarly if you have an infection of the prostate, then massage is NOT a good idea as it can spread, rather than contain the infection.
Any type of massage has been medically proven to reduce the levels of stress and release the body's natural feel good hormones called endorphins. Regular massage will promote good health and well being. If you sit down for long periods, the blood will begin to stagnate but a massage will get the blood moving again and that is especially important in the pelvic area.
Quite simply, prostate massage stimulates the prostate with a finger or massage tool with the intention of relaxation and/or pleasure. Prostate massage manually stimulates the prostate gland, flushing fluid from the gland and encouraging blood flow to the entire pelvis. It is like giving the gland a good rinsing and getting rid of all the toxins and other debris that tend to be deposited in the gland. Usually a very light circular motion with a finger or massager will be sufficient.
This type of massage, carried out regularly over a period of time, can actually reduce the size of the prostate, thereby increasing the flow of urine. Men also notice that there are improvements when they previously suffered from erectile dysfunction. The fact that it stimulates the flow of blood in an area very difficult to reach, means that it is often the most effective prostate treatment available.
There are also external massage techniques which can be used. The abdomen and the lower pelvic areas are the areas to work on. Usually starting in the area of the pubic bone and working up to the belly button, massaging will also work wonders for the prostate.
Herbal remedies are a very easy option if the idea of massage does not appeal to you. The most effective ones are :- saw palmetto and lycopene which is contained in the red skins of tomatoes. Others are :- zinc. pygeum and beta-sitosterol which has recently been the subject of some medical studies.
