Going to a plastic surgery is not like going to a garage to get your car fixed. If something happens to a car, you will need to pay more money to get it fixed again. But with plastic surgery, story is a bit different. If you make an error and choose a bad plastic surgeon, you can't repair your body that easily. And sometimes it is impposible to change anything at all.
Not all plastic surgeons are board certified by the American Board Of Plastic Surgery. There are plenty of those who still wait to be accepeted or who never try to be accepted and have patients come to them because they have cheap service. For a plastic surgeon to be accepeted by the Board means that he has years of training and has proven his skills through practice. Board certified plastic surgeon first must prove his competency and ability to meet neccesary qualifications. Some of them are:
1. Practice plastic surgery for two years
2. Pass examination
3. 3 years of general and 2 years of plastic surgery
4. Have 5 years of additional residency
5. Graduate from accredites school
American Board of Medical Specialties was created to protect patients and it does it by regulating the quality of medical education of doctors. Part of that is the American Board of Plastic Surgery whose goal is to regulate comprehensive examinations of applicants and give certifications to all those doctors who meet the requirements.
To be more direct, if plastic surgeon is recognized by the Board, then he is considered a doctor who developed his skills and is properly trained to perform surgeries. He is held in the highest regard by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is considered to be a diplomat of that organization.
The board itself is trying to protect the patients by educating the doctors. It will never approve thw work of those plastic surgeons who do not have the certification of the American Board Of Plastic Surgery. Selected surgeons have proven their skills and knowledge before they are accepted. They have shown their education level, amount of practice, involvement with the community and in local hospitals. The final goal of The Board is to select best plastic surgeons in the market according to the requirements.
Any surgeon that doesn not have the qualifications to enter the board is considered to be unadequate to perform plastic surgeries. It is your duty to check is your surgeon certified or no because it will greatly reduce the risk of surgery and chances that you have a bad plastic surgery. For all of you who are quick in decision, this might be a tiresome business, but you have to decide what is best for you, your life and your loved ones.
As we said, Board certification is important, it ensures that you have a quality and reliable plastic surgeon. He has right qualifications to do the surgery and will perform the procedure he has experience in. He will also provide you with the guidance you need and make sure you bring an informed and safe decision.
