Bullfighting in Murcia Mesmerizes Visitors on Holiday to La Manga

This Travel Article is Brought To You By - Michael J Lee

Bullfighting truly is a spectacle with a rich history. While not for everyone, bullfighting does have a time-honored place in Spain's culture. It is an event worth checking out, even if just to learn more about the culture of this beautiful country.

La Manga is in the Spanish region of Murcia on the Costa Calida. La Manga is a slice of land 28 kilometers in length. It separates the Mediterranean from the sea inlet of Mar Menor. When you are on holiday in La Manga, you are near the center of Spain's bullfighting history. In the nearby city of Murcia, the region's capital, you can take in a true bullfighting experience. In addition to the bullfight itself, you can visit the Bullfighting Museum of Murcia. Its collection includes bullfighting posters, costumes and equipment. The museum also contains a library and video collection devoted to the sport. The museum has been in operation for nearly 90 years.

Bullfights in Murcia take place at the Murcia Bullring on Ronda de Garay. Whether you're enjoying a private villa, an apartment rental or a luxury resort in La Manga, you won't be far away from the bullfighting action.

The history of the bullring dates back to the Celt-Iberian temples, although it's the Greeks and Romans who first presented bullfighting as a great spectacle. The bullring is known as the plaza, and the bullfighter is called a torero. In the Middle Ages, toreros would ride on horseback while they fought the bulls. Eventually it became an on-foot exercise of daring. Today's bullfighters often achieve celebrity status.

The bullfight itself is known as a corrida. Each bullfight consists of three toreros who must fight two bulls each. It is a game of strategy between man and beast and, while controversial to some, shows no signs of waning in popularity.

Viewing a bullfight in Murcia is one of many activities available when vacationing in La Manga. You also can enjoy a tennis or golf outing while in this part of Spain. La Manga has a reputation for its great beaches, as well, so visitors can enjoy a variety of water sports. Families with young children enjoy the beaches along the Mar Menor coast for their warm, shallow waters.

La Manga is also close to Cartagena and Lorca. These cities are rich in their history, traditions and culture. After a day at the bullfights, you can make your way to one of these cities and sample their local fare. You can end the day back in La Manga with a nice spa treatment and a glass of your favorite wine. You might want to sit by a nice, lighted pool and soak up the memories of your exciting day.

A Spanish holiday is one you will always remember. It's a perfect place for a family vacation because of all the activities offered and attractions to see. With the variety of accommodations available, you can plan a trip to suit your needs. If you want a private villa and self-catered meals, you can have that. You also can opt for an all-inclusive package and you sit back and have service lavished upon you. Whatever you decide, a Spanish holiday in La Manga is sure to give you all that you desire.
