Being at four different hotels for the last week and a half taught me one thing to know during traveling; picking the right hotel determines the air of the trip. You wake up in the hotel and start the day there and it is where you go back to sleep and end your day. A smooth walk out of the hotel door can get you prepared for your trip while a mishap at the hotel can ruin your day. For a business travel, you are most likely to go back to the same hotel, thus making the right choice will help you out in the long run as well.
Choosing which hotel to lodge in before internet was a very difficult process; looking through the yellow pages, asking around relatives and friends who visited the place, asking a traveling company to find one or even plan out a whole trip for you. But now, everything is at your fingertips, from locations, room rates, and phone numbers to reviews and pictures by the people who stayed at the hotel. A lot of traveling websites that books your trip including your airplane ticket, car rentals and lodging are the ones most trusted and it is a lot cheaper, but if you insist on doing your own research, you always have your favorite search engines.
After finding the different hotel locations at your destination, you can plan out your trip more time efficient by picking out a place that is closest to your desired destination and tourist sites. The hotels usually have pictures of their rooms and lobby on their websites, but if not, you can click on the review by the travelers and they might have some pictures with it.
The reviews can be found in other popular portal websites. In the review, most websites offer for the user to not only write the review but rate the hotel and gives you an average score of the hotel. Most of the reviews and ranking system are trustworthy, but I would look at two reviews from each rank so that you would know what to expect at every situation, and watch out for spammers.
Lastly, as a traveling tip, if you are traveling with a friend, it sometimes makes life so much easier if you book two single bed rooms at a local inn instead of a two bed room at a luxury hotel if the costs are not much different either way. Having a single bathroom would be the first problem amongst the two in the morning and even other privacy matters might come into consideration. Some of the chain motels like best western are almost as good as a regular hotel you find, so consider it a great option for your travel. If you think all these were a hassle, you can just look and book your trip at the travel agency websites.
At the end, don't forget to check your check in and checkout times, and you'll be fine for the rest of the trip.
