Often the closet that is located in the bedroom is the most difficult area of the new house or apartment to maximize storage space. In fact it is one of the areas in the house / apartment where there can be more storage space then there currently is. When you are decorating a new home, there are some ways to fix this problem that do not cost much money.
The first thing to do is to completely empty out the closet. If you are just moving into your new home, then presumably most of the work is already done for you. Wipe down the walls and any shelving currently in the closet, and also give some consideration to any bedroom decor ideas you may already have. Once the closet is empty and cleaned, it is a quick and easy project to give the interior a fresh coat of paint in a color that coordinates with the rest of the room.
After your closet is all cleaned out and ready to be filled again, you'll need to start thinking about closet organizers and what will work best for you. Ready made and custom made closet organizers are available for purchase, or you can put together your own using pre-packaged kits.
Bedroom closet organizers are simple to make and can be easily found at your local hardware store. Closet organizers can come in a variety of shapes and sizes, using metal racking or wood they can be adjusted to your closet space in a snap. The only components needed are hooks, shelving, hanger rods, and bins; which require little manual labor to put together. If you need shelves in your closet all you need to do is make a bracket out of scrap wood, nail it in place with a hammer, and the just slide your new shelf into place.
Splitting the closet horizontally with dual hanger rods is also an effective way to create storage space for your clothing. This option works best if most of your clothing are pants, skirts and shirts. Long evening gowns won't fit very well with this design! Shoes can be stores in plastic bins, as can jewelry, scarves and any assortment of accessories. If your bins aren't tranparent, make sure to label them so you don't have to go sorting through them whenever you need something.
The use of bedroom closet organizers is a great way to keep your clothes easily accessible and looking their best. Organizing your closet does not have to be a daunting project, and the final results are well worth the effort. Taking a few seconds to put items in their proper places in the closet after use will help you easily maintain your tidy new closet.
If you're feeling a little more creative or if your budget doesn't have room for store-bought closet organizers, there are still ways to get organized with what you already have at home. Place some unused shelving either in your closet (if you have room) or along a bedroom wall. Then use baskets, photo boxes, or plastic storage containers to hold your clothing and personal items. You've just cleaned up your bedroom without spending a lot of money!
