Auditory Memory Training Exercises

Okay, you're headed off to the store when someone says to you please pick me up a stick of deodorant and a large chocolate bar. Which is more likely? You will forget the chocolate bar? Or, you will forget the stick of deodorant? Or, you'll completely forget that they asked you for anything until you're halfway home? If you are typically guilty of any one of those three there is help for you.

Probably the most important thing that you can do is simply to occasionally exercise this sequence of events by practicing using specific auditory exercises. For instance, most radio stations now have a web presence so use it to your advantage.

Now you want to turn or the radio station and listened to the next five songs. Take a break during the next commercial and then when the song number six begins saying out loud the titles of the previous five songs. Don't write them down. You want to save them out loud. This is an auditory exercise. Now go back to your play list that you printed out and compare it to do what you remember.

Over a period of time once you are scoring very well with fine songs then gradually increase your challenge to 10 songs and then eventually 15 songs. You will find that this is an excellent exercise for your memory and one that will spill over into other areas of your life increasing the efficiency of your memory in general.

Another thing that you can try is a little more pleasant for some people simply because it is no longer a solitary activity when you are trying to improve your ability to memorize things. Here you just want to get someone to help you and their job is simply to find a list of five or 10 or 15 items and then read it out to you. Reading it out slowly is fine.

Your job, quite obviously, is just to then repeat the list back to them. You may think that is challenging enough but once you have done this correctly one time then you want to repeat the list again from memory a second and then a third time. Again, this is all part of training the brain to file things properly.

Remember to focus on old fashioned repetition. Saying things over and over again really does help. It really does make a big difference for you not only for the thing that you are trying to memorize at the moment but it also overflows into other areas of your life as your memorization process becomes more ingrained.

Never underestimate the power of your mind. No matter how much it may occasionally have you concerned because it seems that your memory is giving you more and more problems, short of extensive physical trauma your brain is capable of regaining much of its lost memory power if you only take the time to train it properly.
