I have a new hobby lately which is to find false data on the web and prove it false. In the area of Online tips for increasing your MPG I am finding a gold mine of lame information.
In previous articles, I have, dispelled the truth of lame tips such as unjunking your trunk, driving with your a/c on, driving with your a/c off, keeping your tires at optimum pressure… in some examples the well intentioned but lame advice was found to be positively mythological . In other examples, the tip was sound but the reward was so slim as to not be worth the attention. Like the “unjunk your trunk” was debunked when I did the math and realized the typical car owner would only save at best $50 per year!
Ok, well here goes another lame suggestion
It has been adviced that increasing your MPG can be accomplished if you fill up your gasoline tank when your gasoline is half empty or half full and the rationale behind this was that you would be losing less gasoline to evaporation somehow. The emptier the gasoline tank is liklier the gasoline is to evaporate was the rationale.
Well I just found out a contrary view. Another source I have consulted tells me it is wiser to not fill up unless you are on empty, since the gasoline weighs a lot. So you have a factor of evaporation versus the sheer weight of having gasoline in your tank. And my adjudication based on this is to not worry about it and I make that same recommendation to you! The savings either way would probably be minimal and not enough to put attention on. So don’t.
THE HYDROGEN “BOMB”
End your addiction to pumping putrid gasoline into your car altogether.
If you do a complete conversion to a hydrogen system based on water you will emancipate yourself and will never have to pay for another gallon of gasoline again.
Only Bush considers that it is something of the future not something that we have available now. Or most probably he is aware that it is available now but would prefer that we don’t know about it. That is most certainly the case.
The know how exists, It is inexpensive, It is simple to learn and you can do the conversion yourself.
If you are not feeling so bold, you can do an easier conversion to a hybrid gasoline/hydrogen engine and increase your MPG by as much as 30% or more and have a cleaner running car at the same time that you are saving money.
That advice to gasoline prices cannot be debunked. Thousands of folks every month are making the conversion and joining the revolution!
