Figuring out how to get back and forth to the airport when you are flying is often a very stressful situation. If you have an early flight do you ask a friend for a ride or should you just park the car? Today airports have short, long term and economy parking . You can also find some shared services as well as places that are in town that let you leave your car when you travel.
Does short-term parking make sense? This is the most expensive option at the airport but may work well for you if you are away for a few days. Generally it is easy to get to terminal from there and has little hassle.
Many choose the long-term parking lot due to it being less expensive than the short-term lot. There is a shuttle or bus that will get you back and forth to airport buildings. This may be a good choice for you, especially for a family vacation.
When you park at the economy parking lot you save the most money but have a longer shuttle to the airport. Compare this with the long-term rates to see what works best for you. If you need to be in a sheltered lot, you may not get that in economy parking.
Many people forget where they park so remember to write down the aisle number and parking spot number so you can find it. There is nothing worse than returning from vacation and spending an hour walking up and down a parking lot with lots of luggage lost. You may be tired and not having the energy to do this, so forethought is a good idea.
Parking off-site is another option for travellers and some places entice you with a car wash, free cup of coffee and newspaper. Hotels and rental places often offer this service and shuttle you to your terminal.
When you park off-site see if the pricing for a covered vs uncovered spot makes a difference to you. Keep in mind that security may also be different depending on the neighborhood of the parking service.
Some airports have a shared ride service where you pay 15.00 or so to be given a ride with others to or from airport. Sometimes the ride can take 2 to 3 hours if you are the last one in the line up so you need to consider this. Still the price is great and you may even enjoy hearing about others' trips in the car and conversing.
Parking may be costly depending on the option you pick so compare them and make the best choice for yourself and family. Figure out if you want to pay a bit more for extra services or if you are trying to economize.
