Today, it is very hard for us, budget-conscious people to buy expensive ornaments or other Christmas decorations. As an alternative cheaper method, I have three homemade crafts you can make using everyday household items. You can use these simple craft ideas for Christmas ornaments to send to family and friends.
1. Cookie Ornaments: Get some cookie cutter designs you have on hand to bake cookies for your Christmas tree. If cookie cutter designs aren't available, no sweat. Make your own creations. How about making pretzel cookies which can then be hung on a twig and adorned with colored ribbons?
Here are the instructions. Roll the dough to about 3 inches. Overlap both ends and form them to a classic Q-shaped pretzel design or any loop design. When the cookie pretzel is done baking, you can tie it with a ribbon and put it on the tree.
2. Paper Tree Decorations: Take several pieces of colored paper and cut out different Christmas tree designs. Let your kids personalize each cut-out tree with his name, color stickers, a picture, or drawing designs on the tree to look like ornaments. Line these up in your child's room to make a border or link them together and put them around the Christmas tree.
3. Christmas Stocking Ornaments: Make your own Christmas stocking ornaments using whatever material you have on hand. Use several fabrics and colors to really make them bright and colorful. Glue on bows, beads or large ribbons. You can give them a unique touch by writing your child's name on it. When finished, loop a piece of fabric and sew it to the top end of the stocking. Now, show them off by hanging it to the tree.
Making homemade and handmade Christmas ornaments is not only fun for the entire family, but lets your child expand his creativity and imagination. It is much more meaningful to make something than to just go out and buy it. These simple craft ideas for Christmas are a wonderful and satisfying way to spend time with your children. These homemade ornaments make wonderful gifts as well.
Before shelling out cash for some Christmas ornaments, scrounge around the house first. You'll never know what beautiful ornaments you can make from everyday things!
