This way you will never make a mistake. It is not because Ukrainian ladies are poor or greedy. Simply, such is the tradition. If a man courts a lady, he has to cover all their dating expenses.

Apart from paying the bills, the man is also expected to show some gentlemanly manners to his lady, like opening the door for her or giving her a hand when she steps out of the taxi or public transport. At the restaurant, the man is also expected to help the lady get seated first and move her chair. These are just some of the small things in courtship, but they go a long way and are even essential to successfully dating your Ukrainian woman. Do not be fazed by all the hype about Ukrainian women being smart and independent, they also want to be treated like real ladies too.

As I have already mentioned above, a lady would expect you to pay for her at the restaurant, cinema or theatre, etc. In addition, giving her small gifts would also be appropriate. If it is not some big event, you are celebrating, than you may stick with some flowers and candies.

However, be careful what flowers you select. In Ukraine you always give your fiancee an odd number of flowers, because the bouquets with even number of flowers are given for the burials only!

Be mindful too about the choice of color. Yellow in is the traditional color for departure and separation in Ukraine. Unless if you are absolutely sure that your Ukrainian girlfriend likes yellow, do not send yellow flowers. If she is superstitious she might think it a bad sign to receive yellow flowers and might even think you relationship is simply doomed.
